渡辺喜美元行革担当相は２４日の衆院本会議で、民主党などが提出した「衆院解散要求決議案」に賛成した。渡辺氏はその後、記者会見し、自民党執行部の方針に反して決議案に賛成した理由について「（解散は）私の持論。いまの閉塞（へいそく）状況を打破するには、解散・総選挙しかないとかねて申し上げていた」と説明。
